"We restored an old farmhouse on a private estate of 6 hectares of land that dates back 400 years. It is located in inland Istria, Croatia. Still an unspoiled and wild part of Croatia. Near the picturesque hilltop town Motovun which is very famous for truffles, wine and olive oil production.
In the past this area was poor as much of the trade was along the coast.
So we wanted to reflect on the past and restore this in a very natural, rustic and rugged style. The whole house is handcrafted work of stone, old oak timber and cotton. We also used only lime based paints and the walls look really beautiful with the shadows of the bamboo lights at night. Only pale colours were used to fit it the house back into the nature of truffle woods, vineyards and olive groves.
The estate produces organic wine and olive oil as well as vegetables. So we also wanted sustainable materials in furniture and lighting as well as antique pieces from Asia and Africa."
